Is your lighting holding you back from repeat customers? Lighting doesn't just serve to illuminate your guests' food and drink, how a restaurant/cafe is lit will affect how your patrons feel and how much time they will spend in your eatery.

Your objective may be turn over tables quickly, especially during a busy service, but during periods of quiet, you want the customers to be relaxed so that they stay for longer and in turn buy more drinks and dessert. *kaching!* If you have the right lighting, your customer will feel more comfortable and relaxed. You also want the customer to return. Even if your food has is "hatted" and your service gets 5 star reviews on Tripadvisor, if your customer can't see their food, or feels like they are under a spotlight, they aren't likely to return.
Don't forget to consider lighting throughout the day if you run a breakfast, lunch and dinner service. Breakfast is often fast-paced, while dinner diners aren't typically as rushed (except for those eager to get to their movie).

Keep in mind that often lighting needs to be balanced with the decor to prevent eye discomfort and headaches. That is not desirable for a Sunday Chill Sesh or Friday night drinks.

Engage a designer when reconsidering your lighting. make sure they understand the psychology of lighting to ensure your customer feels comfortable complementing your food, service and overall ambience.

In case you didn't realise, there's a heatwave in the Goulburn Valley! Hot weather can cause power outages.

Restoration of power in our area is the responsibility of Citipower & Powercor. If you experience an outage - check out their website first to see whether it is a power outage in your area, before trying getting in contact with us. If there isn't any outage listed in your area on the distributor's website, give Bonnett's a call as you may have a tripped circuit.

You can sign up for email and SMS updates from Powercor to stay informed.

Preparing yourself for an outage is important:
- Ensure you have access to a phone or landline that doesn't require electricity to operate. Ensure you have back up power pack for your mobile phone.
- Have a torch handy with spare batteries
- Alternative cooking facilities - try a new restaurant or have a camp out with takeaway!
- battery powered radio to ensure you can stay up to date with the latest news
- access to fresh water - especially during heatwave outages!

During an outage:
- Keep clear of fallen power lines
- Be careful around generators
- If there is damage to your property, call the Bonnett's team to ensure that it is safe to turn power back on.
- Keep your fridge and freezer closed for as long as possible. This will ensure they stay cold. If in doubt - chuck it out!
- Check on neighbours, relatives and friends.

Look after yourself in hot weather:
+ Drink plenty of water, use electrolytes if necessary.
+ Never leave animals or children in the car
+ Try and spend your time somewhere cool - if it is by the pool or water, make sure you slip, slop, slap, seek and slide.
+ Plan ahead - be prepared for outages
+ Check in on others

Stay safe out there!

Bonnett's Electricians are proudly safety experts. Never is there a more special time of year than this festive season to be extra vigilant about our health and safety.

The festive season is a wonderful time to reconnect with each other and share stories from different job sites and update each other on exciting personal news. During this time, Bonnett's staff come together to reflect on the year that has been, think about the new year and reconnect. At the moment, we don't always get to see each other, but Christmas provides the time for the Bonnett's family to catch up.

Tips for a Happy Festive Season:
- Check in with yourself. Christmas Day and surrounding events are inevitably stressful. Between shopping for the right gifts, planning and preparing meals and sorting out your social calendar it is easy to feel overwhelmed. Taking a few moments each day to do something just for yourself, will help refocus and aid in stress reduction.
- Stay Active - a daily family walk will provide you some exercise (hello happy hormones!) and the opportunity to connect with each other in a different environment. Get outdoors (don't forget to stay hydrated during those super hot Summer days!) and explore your neighbourhood. Going at dusk or dawn to witness the sunset or sunrise is truly magical (and totally Instagrammable!). Don't forget a hat and sunscreen. Sunburn is no joke!
- Check in on others. The festive season can stir up memories of lost loved ones and feelings of loneliness. Check in regularly and offer a listening ear. Invite those alone to social functions.
- Stay organised. We like a list. Start early so that you can annotate and update it regularly. Hopefully it will help Santa avoid a late Christmas Eve dash to the servo for some batteries!

Tips for a Safe Home:
- Check string lights and wires for any damage
- Keep lights away from flammable material
- When buying new lights - make sure they meet Australian Safety Standards
- Don't overload power points!
- Always unplug and turn off lights before heading to bed
- Make sure your smoke alarms are in good working order
- Check you have safety switch installed on your meter box.
- Where possible, avoid using powerboards and double adaptors. It's safer to plug straight into the wall.
- If you're trimming a real tree this Christmas, be sure to keep it watered regularly to make it less flammable.
- Be sure to keep an eye out for Product Safety Recalls. The perfect gift needs to be safe and made to Australian standards.

We hope these tips offer some ideas to help you on your way to a Happy and Safe Christmas.

Steve the friendly cockatoo joined Ryan at ACM Girgarre earlier this week. According to Darren, Steve and Ryan are great mates, despite looking like they've had a fight in this photo!

Ryan has been installing  light and power to the new processing plant at Girgarre.

We think there's a possibility that Steve might be Ryan's new apprentice - we hear he's quick leaner and excellent and repeating back to Ryan what he's just heard!

  • Switch appliances off at the wall. TVs, DVD players, computers, stereos and game consoles still use energy in standby mode. When not in use, switch these appliances off at the wall.
  • Use a power board to supply electricity to multiple appliances at the same time. This allows you to switch off all appliances using the same switch.
  • Use lamps or spotlights if you only need a small amount of light, instead of main lights.
  • Use energy-saving light globes and change your old light globes to compact fluorescent ones. Better still, swap over for LED because they’re not only energy efficient but cheaper to buy too.
  • How many lights are on? Turn off lights in the rooms you’re not using.
