According to Job Outlook, the number of job openings for electricians in the five years is expected to be more than 50,000. These statistics are compiled annually and are based on national statistics. This figure can arise from employment growth as well as people leaving the profession. With figures showing 145,400 electricians throughout Australia in November 2013, a figure which rose strongly from the previous five years, job prospects are expected to continue to grow.
94% of electricians work full-time. The average working week for those electricians is 41.1 hours, the same as the average for all occupations. Earnings, however, are above average in the eighth decile. On the contrary, unemployment for electricians is below average.
Electricians can be employed in a wide range of industries, including construction, manufacturing and electricity, gas, water and waste services.
